My Studio Spaces
My home has been changing to better facilitate photography for several years now and refurbishments still continue as time and money allow. I now have two very different home studio spaces, one of which is a dedicated photography studio.
Based in the home environment, my studio spaces are:
- Dedicated studio room, 5.2 x 3.4 metres
- Simple white multi-functional space, approx 7.5 x 3.5 metres
The Dedicated Studio
Purpose-built for photography, my dedicated home studio is a 5.2 x 3.4 metre room equipped with a versatile range of lighting, backdrop, and support systems. It’s ideal for model portfolio shoots, creative projects, portraits, headshots, small family groups (up to five people), and detailed product or artwork photography. With a neutral working aesthetic, it focuses entirely on functionality and photographic control, rather than being decorative or themed.
The space features a robust lighting setup including Godox strobes, vertical strip lights, colour LED flood lamps, and a wide selection of softboxes, umbrellas, grids, and gels (coloured filters). A sturdy free-standing metal frame allows flexible mounting for lights, backdrops, and accessories. Multiple backdrops are available, including large vinyl black/white options, seasonal or themed backgrounds, and coloured fabric backdrops too.
The room also supports behind-the-scenes (BTS) video, with multiple, positionable phone mounts and a large BTS camera display screen. An immersive 7.1 surround sound system adds a little user-comfort too. Everything is arranged with efficiency in mind, creating a flexible environment for professional-grade photography within a compact, private home studio.
The Dining Room Studio
Before establishing my dedicated home studio, I used the spacious dining room for photography. Measuring approximately 7.5 x 3.5 metres, this multi-purpose room offers a longer shooting space and features a large, photogenic chaise lounge that models occasionally request. The room benefits from natural light through French doors and a skylight, though most indoor shoots rely on strobes for consistent lighting. Its bright, open atmosphere, with plain white walls and dark wood flooring, provides a flexible canvas for creative setups, though some furniture rearrangement is needed for shoots. Although primarily reserved now for shoots involving the chaise lounge, this room proved its value in the past and remains a versatile option for select sessions.
Planned for the future:
- Cocktail bar (no, not for drinking, but great as a background!)
- Swimming pool, patio, deck and summerhouse space
